BRATTLEBORO -- Francis Gerard Anthony "Frank" Giamartino, 53, of Brattleboro and Newfane, died Monday evening, June 19, 2006, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital from injuries he sustained in a single motor vehicle accident on Route 30 in Dummerston.
Mr. Giamartino was born in Teaneck, N.J., on Jan. 11, 1953, the son of Joseph F. and Agostina (Schillaci) Giamartino.
He was raised in both Fair Lawn and Parsippany, N.J., attending St. Anne's Parochial School and graduating from Parsippany Hills High School, Class of 1971.
He went on to attend Union University's Albany College of Pharmacology, earning his degree in pharmacology in 1976.
Mr. Giamartino with his wife Mary owned and operated the Hotel Pharmacy on Elliot Street, purchasing the business in 1982 from David and Patricia Hoefer, whom he worked under for several years prior to becoming owner of the business.
He was a member of the Vermont Pharmacist Association where he served as president, held membership in the American Society of Consultant Pharmacist, National Community Pharmacist Association and the American Pharmaceutical Association.
Mr. Giamartino was a member of the Southern Vermont Baseball Umpires Association and for many years served as an umpire for the Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion and high school baseball games.
He was a communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church and for several years served on the Board for St. Michael's School. He also served as a consultant at the Vernon Green Nursing Home in Vernon.
A true baseball enthusiast, he was an avid New York Mets fan. He had a great love for people and especially enjoyed time shared with his sons, nieces, nephews, staff and many friends.
He was extremely robust and thoroughly enjoyed everything life had to offer, and was always the life of the party.
On June 10, 1978, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown, N.Y., he was married to Mary Garry who survives.
Besides his faithful and loving wife of 28 years, he leaves a son, Vincent Giamartino of Hoboken, N.J.; his father of Denville, N.J.; a brother, Joseph Giamartino and his wife Maria of Hawthorne, N.Y.; three sisters, Juliet Figueroa and her husband Hector of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Regina Buccino and her husband Christopher of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Theresa Giamartino and her life partner Pamela Springer of Berkley, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Garry Parsons of Brattleboro; brothers-in-law, Eugene Garry and his wife Ruth of South Newfane, and Francis Garry and his wife Lori of Bridgewater, N.J.; sister-in-law, Monica Garry and her fiancée Matteo of Pistono, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a large circle of loving and caring friends too numerous to count.
Mr. Giamartino was predeceased by a son, Nicholas, on March 7, 2001; his mother on March 3, 1999; his step-father-in-law, William Parsons, on Nov. 25, 2005; and, his father-in-law, Eugene Garry Sr., on June 27, 1983.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Walnut Street in Brattleboro.
A visitation for the public will be held at the gymnasium at Brattleboro Union High School on Fairground Road on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
